This true story about the baseball legend, Jackie Robinson, is written by his daughter. Jackie had a beautiful lake on his property in Connecticut. However, his children and their friends were nervous about skating on the frozen water.
Jackie always seemed to avoid the lake…that is, until he courageously stepped out to “test the ice” to ensure it was safe for the kids to skate. It was with that same courage and bravery that he stepped out broke the color barrier in baseball!
We enjoyed this book alot. It is a heart-warming story about a father overcoming his personal fears for the sake of his children. I love that it shows this, less often seen, side of the baseball legend! And, the artwork is amazing!!
