This FREE printable math game provides a fun, hands-on way to practice adding fractions together to make a whole. Download the Making it Whole fractions game!

Fractions can be fun; especially when you can turn them into a game! Making it Whole is a math game designed to help make fractions just that…more fun! Students will practice adding fractions together to make one whole. It is just one of the many math printables and printable games that I share here on my blog!

Making it Whole FREE Fractions Math Game

Preparing the Game:

Print the fraction cards included in the download onto cardstock paper. (Choose from either the light or dark version depending on the thickness of your paper). Laminate for durability and then cut the cards apart.

How to Play the Game:

Shuffle all the cards and place the deck face down. Turn over the top card, placing it in the middle.

Each player takes turns turning over a card. If their card makes a whole with the card turned over in the middle, they keep both cards.

If the cards do not make a whole, the player puts their card face up in the middle. The next player takes their turn.

Play continues until all of the cards are gone. The player with the most cards wins.

See the Game in Action:

Follow along below to see a sample game in action. Begin by turning the top card over and placing it in the middle.

Player A turns over the top card in the deck, 2/3.

Since 1/8 and 2/3 do not make a whole, Player A puts the card in the middle.

Player B turns over the top card in the deck, 1/3.

Since 1/3 and 2/3 make a whole, Player B takes the two cards and sets them aside…

…leaving 1/8 in the middle.

Player A turns over the top card in the deck, 3/8.

Since 1/8 and 3/8 do not make a whole, Player A places the card in the middle.

Player B turns over the top card in the deck, 1/2.

Since 1/2 and 3/8 do not make a whole, Player B places the card in the middle.

Player A turns over the top card in the deck, 4/8.

Since 1/2 and 4/8 do make a whole, Player A takes both cards and sets them aside.

NOTE: You can still play this game even if you have not taught about reducing fractions. Simply acknowledge making wholes with the same denominator.

What an awesome game to reinforce adding fractions.

Stumbled on this page while looking for networking and spreading the word about my own site on fractions. Many worksheets and lessons on adding fractions can be printed free @ the following page
