Circle Subtraction is a game that I made for my kids when they were young to help them practice their subtraction skills. It is just one of the many math printables that I share here on my site. Be sure to check out my other printable games as well!

Materials Needed for Game:

    * Colored pencils OR fine tip dry erase markers in multiple colors (These come with an eraser cap for quickly fixing subtraction mistakes in the game.)
    * The Circle Subtraction game board (Download instructions are below)

Preparing the Game:

Print the game board grid. Laminate it or slide it into a paper protector if you plan to use dry erase markers.

Circle Subtraction Game Instructions:

The first player circles any number on the grid. The next player circles another number. For the remainder of the game, the players take turns circling the number that is the difference between any of the previously circled numbers. Play continues until there are no more numbers that can be circled.

Watch the Game in Action with 3 players:

Player 1 (pink) circles any number on the grid.

Player 2 (green) circles another number, any number.

Player 3 (blue) decides to subtract 79 – 16 and circles the solution, 63.

Player 1 (pink) decides to subtract 63 – 16 and circles the solution, 47.

Player B (green) decides to subtract 79 – 47 and circles the solution, 32.

For the remainder of the game, the players take turns circling the number that is the difference between any of the previously circled numbers. Play continues until there are no more numbers that can be circled.

No winner per se…just lots of practice subtracting. However, the “game” does end when there are no longer any numbers available to circle.
