This hands-on activity provides a fun way to practice basic addition and subtraction skills. Download and print the Making Equations math game today!
Help reinforce and practice basic addition and subtraction skills with this fun math game! The Making Equations game is just one of the many printable games that I share here on my site. Be sure to check out my other math printables as well!
Preparing the Game:
Print 4 sets of 1-12 number cards onto cardstock. (There are two versions to choose from: black ink or gray ink.) Laminate the cards for durability and then cut them apart.
Print one Making Equations game boards for each player. Slide the game boards into a paper protector or laminate as well.
How to play the Making Equations game:
Shuffle all the cards and deal 3 cards to each player. (My kids loved using our homemade card holders to keep all the cards in their hands!)
Place the deck of cards face down. Take turns drawing a card from the deck until you are able to make a complete addition or subtraction equation.
Once you are able to make an equation, put the cards in the appropriate spot on your game board.
You cannot remove the cards from the board until you have made both an addition and subtraction equation. (This ensures that there is practice with BOTH addition and subtraction).
Once you have made your two equations, remove the cards, set them aside, and continue taking turns turning over cards from the deck until you are able to make another equation.
This process {practice} continues until all the cards in the deck have been turned over and there are no more possible equations to be made. The player with the most cards from making equations wins.
