My kids really enjoyed reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. I was especially excited when I discovered that the book was part of the curriculum we are using. So, I knew immediately that there would be lots of fun ideas to go along with the book.
First, we made coffee filter snowflakes. The kids used watercolors to paint their filters. Once the filters dried, they folded and cut their own snowflakes that resembled the snowflakes in the book.
The boys also created their own snowmen. I had them search around the house for three different circular sizes. They traced and cut out each circle shape on white construction paper. Then they glued the circles to blue paper to make snowmen.
We also used some sequencing cards (on the link, scroll down to February Books to find The Snowy Day activity card link) based on the story. I was really impressed with them trying to put the cards in order without using the book. However, we eventually had to check the book for some hints!
I am really happy with the content and ideas I have found with the Itty Bitty Bookworm curriculum. This is only a very small reflection of all the activities and ideas that Tara has to go along with The Snowy Day. Next up is When It Starts to Snow.
What crafts and activities are you planning for The Snowy Day?
