The Snowy Day {Activities & Crafts}

The Snowy DayMy kiddos really enjoyed The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. (You can read my review of this book here.) I was really excited when I found out that this book was part of our Itty Bitty Bookworm curriculum! So, I knew immediately that there would be lots of fun ideas to go along with the book.
We made coffee filter snowflakes. The kids used watercolors to paint their filter and once dry my expert snowflake makers created their own coffee filter snowflakes.

The boys also created their own snowmen. I had them search around the house of three different circular sizes. They traced and cut out each circle shape. Then they glued to to blue paper to make snowmen.

We also used some sequencing cards based on the story. I was really impressed with them trying to put the cards in order without using the book, but eventually they had to open it up for some hints!

I think their most favorite part was a toss up between making these super yummy edible snowflakes OR acting out the story and pretending to be Peter.

I am really happy with the content and ideas I have found with the Itty Bitty Bookworm curriculum. This is only a very small reflection of all the activities and ideas that Tara has to go along with The Snowy Day. Next up is When It Starts to Snow.

    The Snowy Day is a favorite at our house. The kids have it memorized. My younger one just calls the book, “Peter.” Have you been to this site where they read it online:

    Hey, there! I’m planning on presenting this book this Thursday for the Read for the Record (www.readfortherecord.org), and I’ve been trying SO hard to find extension activities that weren’t just the same old snowman coloring sheet or something. I LOVE your snowflake picture. I am certainly planning on doing this. Thanks so much for sharing this!
