The kids were very excited when we read about Martin Luther King, Jr. Once my daughter realized that his actual birthday was January 15th (the day after we started reading about him) the kids have been "celebrating" ever since!
One of our projects was making handprints. It was a simple, but messy activity! But, to the kids, messy means FUN! Basically, we mixed brown and white paint to make three different shades. The kids made their handprints using each of the three different shades.
We talked about how Dr. King believed that everyone should be treated equally regardless of the color of their skin.
